Skyfire Paints & Quarter Horses
Some of our thoughts...
We utilize a program of working with the horse it's entire life.

Skyfire Merrylegs & Matthew
Beginning as newborns they are imprinted then, assured they are healthy, all babies spend their first year in large pastures with other mares and foals. They learn the hierarchy of a herd, grow naturally with good forage, and exercise themselves. We believe round pen conditioning babies puts too much stress on young bones, tendons and minds. During their first year they are caught up periodically to work on leading, tieing, trimming, and trailering. As yearlings we continue this approach, gradually adding more distractions.

No Fooln Ima Racket & Richard Shrake
As two year olds we begin preparations for starting them under saddle. Taking into consideration both the physical and mental maturity of each horse we may start them in in the Spring or wait until Fall. If ready in the Spring we will saddle and start the horse, do some light riding on trails, in the hills, and on cows. If we feel the horse isn't ready to start until fall we try to get at least six to ten rides on them before throwing them out for the winter.

We won't breed a mare until they are three years old and again take into consideration the mares physical and mental readiness before breeding her. When choosing a stallion for a mare we look at her strengths, weaknesses, and pedigree then match the best stallion available for her. We won't breed an animal that is HYPP positive. All horses are maintained on an appropriate vaccination and de-worming schedule.
We currently have several young horses available plus a few bred mares.
Our 2007 foals are coming soon. Foaling is always exciting. Come see what we're so excited about.
