Retired Dogs – Skyfire Labrador Legacy

Honoring the dogs who shaped our breeding program.

At Skyfire Labradors, our retired dogs are treasured members of our extended family. Each one played an important role in shaping our breeding program and preserving the qualities we value most in the English Labrador. Though they are now enjoying life in their forever homes, we honor them here as part of our Skyfire legacy.

A Look Back at the Labs of Skyfire

What fun it has been to walk down memory lane and revisit these dogs of our past.
Below you’ll find a closer look at some of the dogs whose influence continues in our current dogs.
This is certainly not a comprehensive list, but rather a collection of those who had a lasting impact on
my breeding program – or who I was especially proud of.
Some of them are long gone, and some are treasured members of our and others families.

Law JH CD WC CGC

‘Alibi’

1998 Chocolate Male
Am/Can CH Niptnuck Arncha Bold JH CD x Sunnydaze Skyfire Ragdoll

Alibi is the standard by which we judge all of our boys.  He was kind and generous, a loving dog who wanted nothing more than to please his people – whether it was bringing back the ducks, helping elementary kids improve their reading, or moving a herd of cows.  In 2021 we were fortunate to welcome a litter of Alibi babies by Frozen semen.  While he can be found in most of our dogs pedigrees several generations back, he is also sire and grandsire to a couple of our current favorite girls.

‘Ruger’

2010 Yellow Male
BISS GCH Niptnuck Stocking Stuffer x Somersun Classie Chassie

Ruger is another one of those once in a lifetime dogs.  We count ourselves lucky he came into our lives and is still well represented in the Skyfire program.  Ruger was Jessica’s first child – going off to college with her as a young dog, and welcoming two of her three (human) boys before leaving us at over 15 years of age.  I often ‘see’ Ruger in his kids, grandkids, and great grankids.  He is missed.

Skyfire’s Hunk of Burning Love

‘Elvis’

2015 Chocolate Male
Am/Can GCH CH Skyfire’s Jedi Master x Skyfire Tynder Why Not

Elvis was a fabulous, typey boy ahead of his time.  Sweet and silly with a fabulous temperment and wonderful type.  Elvis was raised with the corgi and never really learned how to play like a Labrador – he would try to herd the other Labs and they thought he was a moron.  Elvis was retired to Minnesota where he follows Hockey and shares the couch with his favorite human.

CH Skyfire You Had Me At Hello

‘Adele’

2019 Yellow Female
CH Devonshire Huckleberry Finn x Skyfire’s Trophy Wife

What can I say about Adele?  I broke my ‘no people names’ rule because she was just so pretty as a puppy!  Adele earned her first points by winning a huge five point major (defeating 104 other girls) from the 12-18 month class.  She was Reserve Winners at the LRC National, Winners at the first Mt Rainier specialty and Best Opposite at PSLRA before retiring to be a cherished house princess.  Adele is the dam of our lovely Siren (who looks just like her mom) and Skyfire TNT at Queijeiro who has been doing some exciting winning in the US and Mexico.

Skyfire’s Do The Impossible

‘Disney’

2015 Black Female
BISS & BIS GCH Ch Shalimar’s the Animator x Skyfire’s Adrenline Junkie

Disney never got much of a chance to shine in the ring, at her very first show as a puppy she was attacked by another dog, and she never could forget that – she hated showing, so we didn’t show her.  But Disney really left her mark in the whelping box – Dam to Ruckus. Molly, Pixar, Wanda, Hero and granddam to Taffy, Bam Bam Ripley, Revel, Wookie, Really & Rocket.  Disney’s littermate was sent to South America as a puppy where he sired the amazing girl Pela, MBISS MBIS MRBIS GCH AM PE CH MX PE JOAN OF ARC AINA LABS, who won the Brazilian National, Westminster, and the AKC National at Orlando.

Am/Can GCH CH Skyfire’s Jedi Master

‘Yoda’

2013 Chocolate Male
BISS GCH CH Epoch’s Moccasin Joe x Skyfire’s Fun On The Run

Yoda was sold as a puppy to someone who became a good friend and partner in Labradors, Dana Richmond of Danrich Labradors.  Yoda easily earned his Amercian and Canadian Grand Championships and is sire of the #1 Labrador in Canada ‘Colt’.  Yoda is sire to our girl BISS CH Skyfire Danrich Laugh It Up aka ‘Wookie’ who was winners two years in a row (with a litter of puppies in between) at the AKC National in Orlando as well as going Breed from the Classes at the LRC Regional during Nationals week.

Skyfire’s Meant To Be

‘Juju’

2019 Chocolate Female
Gallivant Larger than Life x Skyfire Danrich Reckless Nomad

Juju was one of my very favorites, who was destined to be the bridesmade rather than the bride.  Juju never finsihed her championship – she had two four point majors from specialites and 11 speciality reserves.  As a youngster she was Best in Sweeps at eight of the 11 specialites where she was shown – she was Best Opposite at two others.  Unfortunately, Juju pyo’d the first time I bred her, and she had to be spayed to save her life.  Although we don’t have any baby Juju’s – she was a lot of fun to show and now shares a couch where she is much loved. What fun we had!

Does Juju look familar?  She’s the model for our Logo!

CH Skyfire Oughta Be Haulin

‘Axle’

2006 Chocolate Male
Am/Can CH Skyfire’s Oughta Be A Law JH CD x Skyfire’s Cyclone In the Dark

Axle was also sold as a puppy to someone who became a good friend.

Skyfire Up and Away to Danrich

‘Molly’

2019 Chocolate Female
Gallivant Larger than Life x Skyfire Do The Impossible

What can I say about Molly?  She was sweet and funny and loved attention, however, she never had a chance at a show career thanks to Covid, Molly has left her impact with her fabulous offspring.  Co-owned with Dana Richmond of Danrich Labradors, Molly produced outstanding offspring in every litter – Can CH Rocket TKN, CGC who was Best in Sweeps in the US & Canada; BISS CH Wookie who was WB two years in a row at the AKC National in Orlando (with time off for a litter in between) and who was awarded Best of Breed from the classes at the LRC Regional during national week; Ripley who in limited showing was Best In Sweeps at CCLRC and littermate Revel who is already AKC pointed.

Skyfire’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

‘Monroe’

2010 Yellow Female
Trinity’s Titus x Skyfire’s Kodiak Bombshell

Monroe – one of my favorite blonds, and dam and granddam of several more of them!  Showing Monroe was a little bit like taking Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde out to lunch… you never knew who was going to show up – LOL.  Some days Monroe was a showing machine and loved having all eyes on her, and some days – she was like showing a lump on a log.  Monroe was WB, BOW & BBE at PSLRA 2014 for a five point major.  She had a few other points here and there, but between her show ring persona and other committments in my life – she never had the chance to finish her championship.  Monroe is represted in our current pedigrees by grandson BISS GCH CH Mo TKN, CGC and CH Adele’s daughter Siren.

Can CH Orinoco Bella Mare

‘Ori’

2021 Black Female
Cosmopolitan Bella Mare x Dickendall Buckstone Suzen

Ori came to us, in a round about way from the fabulous Bella Mare kennel in Poland.  Co-owned with Dana Richmond, of  Danrich Labradors, Dana and I were so fortunate to bring Ori and Nitro into our programs a few years ago.  Ori was retired to live with her son from her Mo litter.  She lives on the ocean and enjoys the beach and boat rides weekly!  What a great life she has.

Skyfire’s Cameo

‘Cameo’

1997 Yellow Female
CH Guidelines Master Card x Sunnydaze Skyfire Ladybird

Cameo was such a pretty girl, born out of time.  Sired by the great Swedish Import, CH Guidelines Master Card, Cameo had the great mis-fortune to be born shortly after the LRC changed the Labrador standard – raising the height requirement and adding in a height disqualification.  Cameo was right at the bottom of the standard and so was often awarded RWB – because she was so nice – but just a bit too short.  I bred Cameo to the amazing Am/Int CH Raintree Slippery When Wet JH CGC (Brodie) and she gave me a litter to remember.  Back in the days when we didn’t send dogs out with handlers and did all of our own showing Cameo’s kids were – Lucy who was RWB at the LRC National at 9 months of age, Lucy retired with 11 points and one major; Cam who was Best of Breed from the classes at the BCLRC, WD at GGLRC and retired with 12 points and one major; Sherman who was tragically lost to a spider bite at 12 months and sired two champions in his only litter; Smokey who retired with 12 points, one major and was owner handled to RWD at PLSRA; and my own Puppet who was shown little but is behind many of our dogs that we still have to this day.

Sunnydaze Skyfire Ladybird, retired black English Labrador

Sunnydaze Skyfire Ladybird

‘Ladybird’

1995 Black Female
BISS Am/Can CH Nipntuck Arncha Bold JH CD x Sunnydaze Everybody Duck

Ladybird was the second show Labrador I bought and is behind most of our current dogs here at Skyfire.  Ladybird joined the family while my kids were young and my focus other than the show ring.  She was the show and tell dog and volunteer classroom dog for elementary classes, team mascot and too good to pick up an icky bird LOL!  Ladybird was the dam of our Cameo (see here) who carries on in our pedigrees today and many other well loved Labs including ‘Ellie’ who was, at one point, the highest titled Labrador in Agility in the country – MACH 5 Skyfire’s Ellietta Ica MXS2, MjJS3, AXP, AJP.

CH Nipntuck Skyfire Too Much Fun

‘Caper’

1999 Caper Female
CH Copthorne’s Breezy Uno x Nipntuck Oldham Beatrix

In the summer of 1999 Becky Dannaker of Nipntuck Labradors and I traded puppies – she took ‘Lucy’ from my Brodie daughter Puppet, and I brought home the brown bomber – Caper.  Caper never met a cat she wouldn’t chase, a bumper she wouldn’t retrieve and a fence she couldn’t get through.  For her first two years, Becky would ask me – what does Caper look like, and I’d say a brown sheep and she’d say ‘Sell Her!’.  I’m so glad I didn’t listen :).  In 2004 Becky and I took Caper to the Potomac where she went Best Bred By Bitch defeating 22 in her class as well as the winners of the Bred By Yellow bitch class (a Tabatha girl) and the Bred By Black bitch class (also a Tabatha girl) and I was thrilled!  Caper finished her championship with several Best Bred By award at specailites (shown by Becky) but every single point put on her by me.  Caper would have been able to walk into today’s ring and win.

Skyfire’s Cyclone In The Dark

‘Twister’

2002 Black Female
CH Naiken Indian Temple MH x Skyfire Samba

Twister was sired by English Import Spencer who was one of the very elite list of Labraodors who earned both their conformation championship and a Master Hunter title.  Twister was super birdy with amazing drive, and yet a quiet wall flower at home.  She was major pointed in the ring and had two passes toward her Junior Hunter title in a time when our focus was less on the dogs.  Dam to Axle, Twister left a lasting impression on our program.

CH Skyfire Luv Me Tynder WC

‘Presley’

2008 Chocolate Female
CH Skyfire’s Oughta Be Haulin x Willoridge’s Bring it On

Presley was co-bred with Greg Phillips and co-owned with her sire Axle’s owner Sarah Fischer.  Presley’s maternal grandsire was one of the fabulous Brodie x Cameo pups – Can CH Skyfire’s Tribute to Cameo.  Presley quickly earned her championship and was a beautiful, feminine girl with flawless movement and that melting Labrador expression.  She only had one litter, sired by our ‘Ruger’ and I kept Skyfire Tynder Why Not ‘Taboo’ from that litter.  Taboo is dam to Am/Can CH Danrich Skyfire Abroad, grand dam to Skyfire’s Love Stuck, and great-granddam to our young hopeful ‘Whoppee’.

Skyfire On The Line

‘Puppet’

2000 Black Female
Am/Int CH Raintree Slippery When Wet JH CGC x Skyfire’s Cameo

Puppet joined the Skyfire clan when my kids were starting to get a little older and very busy with sports, 4-H and other activities.  As such, she didn’t really get shown much as my focus was with the family.  Her legacy, and that of her siblings are in their future generations.  Puppet lives on through Monroe >> Mo & Siren, Dotti >> Taffy, Ruger >> Mo & Bam Bam & Tauli.
